Portfolio Element 1 "Bold School"from my "About Me" section of my webpage: "My love of technology started in the 80s with Macintosh computers playing "Oregon Trail" and "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?", Atari 2600, and cassette walkmans. I used an iMac G3 in college and had my first Gateway computer when I graduated. Technology in Education has come a long way since the green and black screen I learned on. I hope we can help your child create some of the same memories using technology as I have--just better."
Technology shouldn't be a separate entity for teachers and students. Technology, along with the technology standards, should be embedded into everyday instruction in the classroom. It shouldn't become an "event." My goals as an instructional coach are similar to those that I had in the classroom--How can I improve my students understanding of the content? How can I instill the value of learning and failing? How can I prepare them to become productive college and career ready members of our community? In order to make my vision, and the school's vision a reality, I must work closely with teachers and students to ensure an understanding of the technology we use. I use Microsoft TEAMS to house all of my Professional Development presentations and notes for easy reference for my teachers. I will be accountable for these goals when teachers can help teachers, when students are stepping up as leaders in our classroom to help with those "tech issues" that seem to happen on a regular basis, when teachers are coming to me with new ideas they want to try in their classrooms, and when I'm not needed to hook up a printer or a computer, but to help create and plan a unit or a lesson. Vertical alignment is critical in middle school. I will have a strategic plan in place to make sure students are growing in their tech knowledge. Students need different, more complex, tasks as they move from one grade to another. By attending grade level meetings, I can work with all teachers to make sure their students are where they need to be. I hope that teachers and administrators describe my work as beneficial. I don't want to be the "fix-it" person, but the one they can come to when they need teaching ideas or strategies. I want to be able to help teachers grow in their teaching and learn new things along with their students. I hope teachers describe working with me as something they enjoy, and not just another thing they have to do. I want my work to be seen as an extension of what they are already doing in their classrooms. I want them to get the glory and praise when something goes right when they try it for the first or fortieth time. I want my work described as needed and important. I want teachers to need to "bounce ideas" off of me for things they want to try in their classroom. I want them to see me as an equal in the classroom and not someone who comes in on occasion. 1. Reflect on our work with the Bold Schools Framework and the Circle of Influence. Write a personal vision statement on the use of instructional technology to support student learning. In addition to your vision statement, please include information pertaining to the following: A. What actions will you take this year to make your vision a reality at your assigned schools? B. How will you be accountable for your work towards this vision? C. How will you support the vertical alignment of student learning within your respective building(s) with technology? How will you support teachers in your building in getting students from where they are to where they need to be for the next grade level or school? D. As an instructional technology coach, how would you want teachers to describe the work you do? E. As an instructional technology coach, how would you want your administrator to describe the work you do? |
